How 49ers, Shanahan entered NFL record books with victory - NBCSports.com

From Senior Bowl to Super Bowl, it's been quite the year for the 49ers' coaching staff.

Coach Kyle Shanahan's team was an abysmal 4-12 last season, going into a tailspin after Jimmy Garoppolo tore his ACL. That turned out to be a "blessing in disguise" for the 49ers, and they never looked back.

The 49ers incredible turnaround hit another level Sunday when they hammered the Green Bay Packers 37-20 in the NFC Championship Game to punch their ticket to Miami and Super Bowl LIV.

Shanahan and the 49ers made some history once the clock struck zero at Levi's Stadium on Sunday night.

The 49ers have been the most complete team all season. They rolled through the regular season, dismantled the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC divisional round and then embarrassed Aaron Rodgers and Co. on Sunday. Next up in this whirlwind journey is reigning NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs, who advanced to their first Super Bowl since 1969 with a win over the Tennessee Titans on Sunday.

Tonight the party is on in Santa Clara. Tomorrow, the South Beach prep begins (and not just the kind Chiefs coach Andy Reid is planning.)

It's almost here.

In a little less than two weeks, the lights will shine on Hard Rock Stadium in Miami when 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs clash in Super Bowl LIV on Feb. 2.

Whether you watch for the game, the commercials, the halftime show or just because your significant other makes you, it's sure to be must-watch four-plus hours of television.

Here's all the information you need to know for Super Bowl LIV:

When: Sunday, Feb. 2, at 3:30 p.m. PT
Where: Hard Rock Stadium (Miami, Fla.)
Halftime Show: Shakira and Jennifer Lopez
TV Channel: FOX
Live Stream: FOXSports.com

The 49ers are South Beach bound and they'd like to dress for the occasion.

Yes, I expect Jimmy Garoppolo and George Kittle to do their best James Crockett impression when the 49ers land in Miami to take on the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIV.

As for the threads coach Kyle Shanahan's team will be rocking on Feb. 2, the Niners would like to wear something special -- if the NFL will allow.

The 49ers punched their ticket to Miami with a 37-20 blistering of the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship Game on Sunday, a win in which Garoppolo only had to throw the ball eight times.

These uniforms hold historical significance. The 49ers rocked those unis, but with the red tops, in their last Super Bowl victory which was a 49-26 drubbing the San Diego Chargers in Super Bowl XXIX in Miami.

With Sherman and the 49ers' other big names behind the idea, it would be odd for the NFL to deny their request.

But the "No Fun League" has made worse decisions.
