It’s been a long time coming, but effective July 1, Shelbyville City Hall will implement electronic payment availability.
City Hall will accept credit card payments with Visa, Mastercard, and Discover. There is a 2.5 percent fee for all cards that will be added to the transaction, according to City Manager Joshua Ray.
Previous City administration considered this option before but never moved forward with it, according to Ray.
“When I arrived, we discussed this as a team and decided that it would be a benefit to our citizens to implement it now,” he said.
Previously, there were additional charges associated with adding the payment terminals, that is, the devices that interact with the cards to transfer electronic funds.
However, the City will not pay for the terminals. The only charges that will occur are the fees associated per transaction, according to Ray.
“We feel confident that the ability to accept credit cards will provide a benefit to our citizens. We will continue to provide the ability to pay for these services online through our new system,” said Ray.
