President Andrzej Duda will accept credentials from new German ambassador to Poland Arndt Freytag von Loringhoven on September 15, presidential aide Krzysztof Szczerski has told PAP.
Szczerski noted that due to the large number of new ambassadors starting their diplomatic missions in Poland, two ceremonies have been planned in September for the president to accept credentials. The second will be held on Tuesday, September 15. On that day, the president will accept credentials from, among other ambassadors, the new ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany and the new ambassador of Great Britain.
The previous German ambassador, Rolf Nikel, ended his diplomatic mission in Warsaw at the end of June this year.
Arndt Freytag von Loringhoven is a former ambassador to the Czech Republic (2014-16), served as deputy head of the BND, Germany's foreign intelligence agency (2007-10) and, since 2016, was NATO's first chief of intelligence.
The acceptance of credentials by the head of state is the last stage in the procedure for admitting the head of a diplomatic mission in a given country. The letters indicate the name and surname of the head of the mission and contain clauses on maintaining and strengthening relations between states. From the moment the president accepts the letters, the head of the diplomatic mission may begin to perform their duties in the host country.
