Things will look and feel a bit different across USD 253 Emporia with a new leader in place.
Interim Superintendent Allison Anderson-Harder was announced as the district's lead administrator Nov. 24 after the sudden resignation of prior superintendent Kevin Case on Nov. 20. On KVOE's Morning Show on Monday, Anderson-Harder credited Case for several major initiatives during his tenure, including the Building for the Future renovation effort approved by voters last year and the Emporia Proud recognition campaign in place since he came to Emporia in 2016.
Anderson-Harder spent time discussing the district's response to coronavirus, which she says has done well overall. She says the district and its staffers did a lot of planning to make sure students have the most effective learning process possible.
Anderson-Harder has 25 years of experience with USD 253 as a psychologist, principal at Walnut Elementary and her previous role, executive director of special services among other duties. She says those positions have allowed her to demonstrate her leadership qualities.
Anderson-Harder tells KVOE News she plans to seek the permanent role, and she says she couldn't be moving into a better position as interim superintendent based on the high-quality staff in the district. The board will officially begin the process of choosing a permanent superintendent at its meeting Wednesday night.
