Taylor Swift is adding more accolades to her already impressive lineup.
The “Blank Space” singer is set to receive an honorary degree from New York University, the school announced on Monday.
A press release states that Swift, 32, will receive a Doctor of Fine Arts, honoris causa, and will speak to graduates at a commencement event on May 18 at Yankee Stadium.
The degree will be Swift’s first as she was already touring and writing hit songs by the time she graduated high school.
NYU lauded Swift as “one of the most prolific and celebrated artists of her generation” in their press statement, noting that she is the only female artist to ever win Album of the Year three times at the Grammys.
The university also pointed out that she’s the only solo artist this century to have three albums reach No. 1 in one year.
The exciting news comes after Swift released her own rendition of her acclaimed album “Red” in November 2021.
It included a 10-minute version of “All Too Well,” supposedly written about ex-boyfriend Jake Gyllenhaal. Naturally, Swifties took to social media to re-hash their thoughts on Swift’s brief relationship with the “Nightcrawler” star in 2010.
Gyllenhaal, 41, later addressed the issue of “cyberbullying” in an interview with Esquire – thought he didn’t mention Swift by name.
“At some point, I think it’s important when supporters get unruly that we feel a responsibility to have them be civil and not allow for cyberbullying in one’s name,” he said last month. “[It’s] a conversation that allows us to examine how we can — or should, even — take responsibility for what we put into the world, our contributions into the world.”
He continued, “My question is: Is this our future? Is anger and divisiveness our future? Or can we be empowered and empower others while simultaneously putting empathy and civility into the dominant conversation? That’s the discussion we should be having.”
