The management of popular singer, Olawale Olooforo, aka Brymo, has said that the apology he tendered following his comment against the Igbo on Twitter is sincere.
It will be recalled that the singer said an Igbo presidency would only be a “pipe dream” due to the agitation for Biafra. This led to the call by several persons that the singer’s nomination at the All Africa Music Award for ‘Song Writer of the Year’ category be cancelled.
The singer took to Instagram on Friday to apologise and clarify what led to his tweet.
He said, “It is very important you understand that this entire fracas began with me seeing in the media that Chimamanda Adichie (popular author) refused some national honours and had picked up some traditional title in the East at home.
“And I suggested that for me, it says a lot about the Igbo presidency because that actual seat is what the region should be eyeing right now. I have clamoured for Igbo presidency in the last few years, you wouldn’t believe it.
“It will pop in your mind when you hear the news that Igbos do not actually want the presidency. I did not insult the tribe, I am sorry to anyone who it sounded as such to. I was trying to weigh into a very important matter.”
However, his apology didn’t sit well with many who felt the apology wasn’t genuine. A Twitter user, @JoblessBoy, insisted that despite his apology, the singer was full of himself.
He wrote, “To me, he is still full of himself. This is not an apology in any way. An apology has language that everyone understands. So, you can do better boy.”
But in an interview with Sunday Scoop, Brymo’s manager, Ortega Kakawa, said, “Brymo has apologised to the entire Igbo on his Twitter space and Instagram live, where he addressed the fracas and miscommunications he may have caused online. His apology was not under duress but at free will in his personal space.”
“The entire management also sends heartfelt sincere apology to every Nigerian in the country and in the diaspora that may have been affected. We hope every petition signed against him is nullified in good light.”
