By India Today Web Desk: Responding to a question whether his estranged cousin and BJP MP Varun Gandhi could join the Bharat Jodo Yatra, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said on Tuesday that it can be problematic because their ideologies don’t match.
“Varun Gandhi is in the BJP and if he walks here, it might be a problem for him,” Rahul Gandhi said at a press conference in Punjab's Hoshiarpur, where he is leading the Bharat Jodo Yatra.

Rahul Gandhi said he cannot accept Varun Gandhi’s ideology. “My family has an ideology, Varun adopted another and I can't accept the ideology he adopted. I cannot go to the RSS office, I'll have to be beheaded before that," the Congress leader said.
A video of the Congress leader's press conference was posted on Twitter.
There was speculation about Varun Gandhi joining the Bharat Jodo Yatra, and eventually, the Congress as he has been taking stands on people-centric issues through his tweets, newspaper pieces, besides public and Parliament speeches—many of them not in line with the BJP’s official position.
This has caused discomfiture and embarrassment to the central government, also giving ammunition to the opposition to sharpen its attacks on the BJP. On its part, the BJP has sought to dismiss these remarks by saying that Varun, a three-time MP, is “fond of giving personal opinions on a daily basis.”
Varun and his mother, Maneka Gandhi, also a BJP MP from Uttar Pradesh and party veteran, don’t use the saffron party’s name in their Twitter bios. Both aren’t part of PM Modi’s council of ministers or any important BJP panel. They didn’t campaign for their party during the last assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh.
Through his remarks on Tuesday, what Rahul Gandhi might have meant was this: For any reunion, Varun first needs to officially quit the BJP and publicly denounce the BJP-RSS ideology. Because nudge-nudge, wink-wink talks may not do.
