It’s been weeks since kids have been in school, learning and hanging out with friends. They’re often bored, wishing to go back. But they’re pretty resilient and finding ways to pass the time. We definitely need to spend more time talking to them. Read on for that and more Florida education news.

Kids say the darnedest things. We interviewed 15 students about their coronavirus experience. They’re a pretty insightful bunch.

As if they’re not busy enough. Two Pasco County schools are looking for new principals.

Being principal is a lonely job these days. Collier County school administrators are figuring out how to still lead when nobody’s around, the Naples Daily News reports. (See the video above for one principal’s reactions.)

They’re still honoring teachers. But Palm Beach County’s annual excellence in education awards will be a virtual affair, the Palm Beach Post reports.

Will the economic impact of Covid-19 mean a decline in teaching jobs? A new study predicts a loss of about 4.1 percent in Florida, the Florida Phoenix reports.

‘This could potentially set us back a decade.’ Florida’s sales tax income has dropped $700 million in the past two months, WFOR reports. Southwest Florida school district leaders worry the steep decline in revenue will lead to massive budget cuts, WINK reports.

Show them their money. Florida university students sue the Board of Governors to get their fees back after Covid-19 closed the campuses, the Tallahassee Democrat reports.

Time for a visit. The Orange County school district plans to send officers out looking for the students who have yet to participate in distance learning, WKMG reports.

Still searching. Candidates continue to show interest in Sarasota County’s superintendent post, the Herald-Tribune reports.

Coming home. Marion County’s new superintendent says she can’t wait to get back to Florida and get started, the Ocala Star-Banner reports.
