(KWWL) - The campaign for Republican congressional candidate Ashley Hinson is calling on Democratic Congresswoman Abby Finkenauer to accept additional political debates between the two major party rivals.
The challenge was issued by Hinson Campaign Manager Jimmy Peacock three days after both candidates squared off on Labor Day.
Finkenauer and Hinson sparred in a one hour debate held by Iowa PBS on September 7. KWWL has issued an invite to each campaign to participate in its own televised debate.
In response, the Finkenauer campaign issued this statement Thursday afternoon: "Congresswoman Finkenauer is focused on the job she was elected to do — representing Iowans and making their voices heard in Washington. Congress will be in session for the next several weeks, with important work to do on funding the government and providing additional coronavirus relief for families, businesses, first-responders and local governments. It sounds like Ashley Hinson is disappointed with her debate performance and would like a do-over — that's understandable, but for Congresswoman Finkenauer, the job comes first."
Hinson is the Republican State Representative for Iowa House District 67. She is trying to unseat US Representative Finkenauer in the 1st Congressional District race. Finkenauer is seeking a second term in office.
