Typhoon Texas

How are Katy Moms Planning their Summer Days?

Summer is here! You made it through the uncertainty of a strange academic year, whether you opted for virtual or in-person. See how Katy Moms are planning their Summer days and entertaining kids in fun and exciting ways. From local farms to educational and interactive opportunities a simple drive away.

What’s on your list?

One of Katy’s biggest attractions is no doubt, Typhoon Texas!

“As a mom I’ve loved bringing my kids to Typhoon Texas since they first opened,” says Angie Waller. “My youngest is now a freshman in high school and still loves meeting his friends there.”

Typhoon Texas has something for all ages as Waller now brings her younger nieces there. Moms can enjoy shade while watching over children and younger kids can enjoy the large splash pad pool.

Great food, the lazy river, endless slides, and more make this a great Katy family hang out and a place to plan many summer days.

Over a little over an hour drive from Katy, but worth it is a wildlife park that will make any family feel like they are in Africa.

“We love Hatari Wildlife Park in Weimar,” says Lindsey Brown. “It’s a drive through safari less than an hour away. They have a little park with activities and food for after the safari. We go so often we ended up getting season passes.”

Dig for artifacts, pet barnyard animals, stroll of the 3000-foot boardwalk and more. You never know what you’ll see at the park that is quickly becoming a Katy mom favorite.

Roughly forty minutes from Katy is a town that Katy moms feel is worth a day trip or a weekend retreat. Bellville is fun to explore from its very own Newman’s Castle to Sunnybrook Farm.

“Last summer, we rented a small farmhouse at Sunnybrook Farm,” says Rachel Allen. “The owner, Rebecca, has lots of mini animals. They are adorable! Then we toured Newman’s Castle. It’s close enough for a day trip and a very cute experience.”

Enjoy a culinary experience of over 30 restaurants, markets, and more in Katy’s Asian Town. From a variety of Asian cuisine including decadent desserts to shopping.

One of the many popular spots in Bing Su, a Korean style of “shaved ice” that’s perfect for a muggy and hot Katy day. Katy Asian Town is a fun Katy experience for the entire family.

Blessington Farms

It’s berry picking time at one of Katy moms favorite farms. Blessington Farms is full of more than just great thornless fruit to pick. It also has fun actives such as train rides, giant slides and animal encounters for the kids to enjoy.

Battlehops Brewing

“Battlehops is a board game heaven mixed with great craft beer and homemade rootbeer right in the heart of Old Katy,” says Adrienne Davitz.

The boardgame café and brewery has over 500 games that range from kids to the classics and complex strategy games.

“It’s family friendly and they have the most creative events,” adds Davits. “A pet friendly patio is also available and down to earth owners top it off!”

In Waller County, one of Katy’s three counties, locals can find some of the best berries and vegetables around.

“My kids love being outdoors, so picking blackberries and veggies is a fun activity to do outside,” says Laura Mayor, who recently took her 4 and 1-year-old.

Families need to check the website for updates. There are no picnic sites.

For an interactive experience out of this world visit Space Center Houston. Learn about the history and the future of NASA’s Space program to the Moon, International Space Station, Mars, and beyond.

Interactive exhibits and rides allow guests of all ages to better understand the science and physics behind space travel. Learn the answers to the universe or more basic questions, like how does an astronaut use the bathroom in space? Touch a moon rock, a piece of Mars, or take a tour behind the scenes of history and watch it as it unfolds around you.

Harborside Drive

Galveston

Baywatch Dolphin Tours

Along Harborside Drive you’ll find several dolphin tour companies such as Baywatch Dolphin Tours, where families can go out and see wild dolphins up close. Along with taking in the wildlife you can learn about Galveston and see local ships.

Galveston is home to many dolphins, so chances are good you’ll see several and maybe even a baby or two. The dolphins are use to the boats and love following the fishing and shrimping boats for scraps so keep a close eye on those to see the best views.

Many of theses ideas were discussed on Katy Moms, a wonderful Facebook community where Katy Moms can share ideas and communicate online.

How are you filling your Katy summer days?
