Michigan’s Best Podcast: We share our favorite inland lakes - mlive.com

suitersa.blogspot.com

As of yesterday morning we had more than 64 nominees for Michigan’s Best Inland Lake, which is a little surprising since we have more than 11,000 inland lakes in the state of Michigan.

That tells us two things:

  1. A lot of you have not had a chance to make your nomination. We are accepting your entries through Friday, May 14, by using the form below.
  2. Some of you don’t want us to know your secret spot.

We discuss both of these possibilities in a recent Michigan’s Best Podcast where Amy Sherman and I talk about the nominees, which are mainly from the Northern Lower Peninsula region of our state. We also discuss some personal favorites.

Amy Sherman loves North Bar Lake near Sleep Bear Dunes National Lakeshore because of its shallow water, ideal for swimming, especially for the little ones.

I’m a fan of Otsego Lake in Gaylord, known for great boating, fishing and kayaking.

We’re both fans of Lake Michigamme in the Upper Peninsula, which is mostly in Marquette County with public access at Van Riper State Park. It is one of Michigan’s largest lakes, covering nearly 5,000 acres.

Listen to the Podcast where we also discuss favorite spots in the Jackson, Coldwater, Fenton and other parts of the state.

How to nominate

We’re looking for your favorite inland lakes to swim, fish, float, boat or paddle. The only caveats are that it be a lake that is accessible to the public (no private association lakes). And no Great Lakes.

Share your favorite Michigan inland lake by using the form below.

You may nominate as many places as you’d like. Please be sure to tell us a little bit about your favorite lakes, and what makes these spots extra special.

The more details you can provide, the better. We may even share your thoughts in a future story.

We are taking nominations now, through Friday, May 14.

For this search, like the last one for Michigan’s Best Vacation Spot, we will only be taking nominations using this form, so be sure to take a moment to fill it out below.

If you cannot view the form, use this link instead: https://forms.office.com/r/f2kSwNijRw

Polls to vote will go up next week.

Michigan’s Best Reporter Amy Sherman and I will have stories on regional winners coming out over the next few weeks, just in time for the summer season.
