The City of Charlotte and SHARE Charlotte have launched a partnership to better support grassroots-led nonprofits focused on community safety, youth, and addressing racial segregation.

More than 100 JumpStart Community Safety Microgrant participants who are 501(c)3 nonprofits are now eligible to participate in SHARE Charlotte's SHARE SHINE program, which provides nonprofits exclusive access to nonprofit programming, including networking opportunities, business development workshops featuring guest instructors from a variety of industries, and discounted marketing services.

Organizations that support work in conflict resolution and mediation, crime fighting and prevention, opportunities for youth and/or parents, family stability, and addressing racial segregation are eligible to participate in the JumpStart Community Safety Microgrant Program (Program). The program provides microgrants, brings organizations together to network and collaborate, and provides leadership and organizational development training to grantees.  To date, 180 organizations have received more than $350,000 in funding through the Program. More than 100 of these organizations are now registered 501(c)3 non-profits and are eligible to participate in this new partnership with SHARE Charlotte.

The Program was created to support grassroots and community-led organizations that are often doing crucial work in communities but are not large enough to receive more traditional philanthropic dollars. This partnership with SHARE Charlotte will allow grantees that have established themselves as non-profits to take their work to the next level, connect with similar organizations and become more embedded in Charlotte's non-profit community.

"SHARE Charlotte is an established and well-executed nexus for the city's non-profit community.  SHARE provides a tremendous support, visibility and networking opportunities for local non-profit organizations, and it just makes sense to have our grantees integrate into that community," said program manager Lacey Williams.  "We are impressed with SHARE's leadership and commitment to amplifying the work of grassroots-led non-profit organizations.  Moreover, we believe the SHARE Shine program will support our JumpStart grantees in taking their work to the next level."
