Norway in Dialogue With UK for the Latter to Accept Mixed COVID Vaccine Doses as Proof of Immunity for Travel - SchengenVisaInfo.com - SchengenVisaInfo.com

The Norwegian authorities have announced they are working with the British counterparts to reach an agreement on having mixed COVID doses recognised by the UK as full immunisation to the virus and therefore permit travellers with such doses to enter the country.

“We are in dialogue with the EU and the UK about this. We do not want to change our practice of vaccinating with both Pfizer and Moderna,” The Norwegian Minister of Health and Care Services, Bent Høie, said.

Currently, only travellers vaccinated with matching doses of COVID vaccines are recognised as fully immunised by the authorities in the United Kingdom, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.

On the other hand, 15 European countries, including Norway, have vaccinated their nationals with mixing doses, a practice they intend to continue pursuing in order to vaccinate their population as soon as possible, as the third wave of infections has hit several EU countries. Moreover, Norway is on the UK’s green list, meaning that no quarantine is required regardless of the vaccination status.

“Although some countries do not currently consider those who have received different vaccines such as doses 1 and 2 to be fully vaccinated, it is important that as many as possible also accept dose 2, regardless of which vaccine is offered. It is only after the second dose that you are well protected both from becoming seriously ill and from infecting others,” Minister Høie said.

Furthermore, the British authorities consider a traveller as fully vaccinated when two doses of the same vaccine, approved by the UK regulator ( Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca, or Janssen) have been administered to the traveller. At least 14 days must have passed since the traveller received the final vaccination.

For unvaccinated travellers, vaccinated with only one dose or vaccinated with two different doses, as the majority of the European citizens are, a ten-day quarantine and two self- purchased tests taken on day two and day two eight, have to be provided.

According to the Norwegian Institute of Public Health, combining vaccines is just as effective and protective as matching vaccines and doesn’t represent a risk of serious side effects.  A study published by Oxford University published in June claims the same, saying that all vaccine combinations generated strong immunity.

“This means that all possible vaccination schedules involving the Oxford-AstraZeneca and Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines could potentially be used against Covid-19,” the study concludes according to Forbes.

For this study, 850 people aged 50 and older volunteered, who got jabbed with either two doses of the Pfizer BioNTech vaccine, two doses of AstraZeneca, or one dose of each.

However, the European countries themselves are having a mixing vaccines confusion as well, since several of them, such as Italy, Portugal, and Poland, haven’t recognised the Indian version of AstraZeneca vaccine, CoviShield, as proof of vaccination, despite the vaccine being approved by the World Health Organisation.

Furthermore, Germany and France recognise only the combination of AstraZeneca and Pfizer or Moderna as full immunity proof.

According to a tool created by VisaGuide.World, vaccines recognised the most by the European countries, right after the EMA approved ones, include Sinohparm, Sinovac and CoviShield, with the latter being administered to over 80,000 Canadians. On the other hand, AstraZeneca is the most widely accepted vaccine globally.
