Dan Mullen dipped his toe in broadcasting after he was let go by the Florida Gators at the end of last season. And now it appears that the former Florida and Mississippi State coach is looking to do it for the season.

Mullen is considering an offer to join ESPN as a studio analyst and is expected to accept, sources told Brett McMurphy of the Action Network.

Mullen, who was fired as Florida’s head coach in November, previously contributed to ESPN and the SEC Network’s coverage of the Crimson Tide and Bulldogs’ clash in December’s SEC Championship Game, and also the national championship game.

Like many analysts, Mullen has already been the subject of fans’ criticism, and he got an early dose of that in his initial stint. One segment in particular was about how to attack Georgia’s secondary. When Mullen opted to use film of how Tennessee attempted to move the ball through the air against Georgia as opposed to how he tried to do so, he was the subject of ire on social media.

Mullen finished 34-15 over 4 seasons at Florida that included a trip to the SEC Championship Game 2 years ago, and 3 New Year’s Six bowls. Florida fired Mullen after his sixth loss in 9 games, and 2 months after the Gators went toe-to-toe with defending national champion Alabama and a year after they had a chance to make the College Football Playoff.
