The Houston division of the FBI is encouraging residents to share any information that they may have ahead of the inauguration.

The news comes after the riots at the Capitol last week.

In order to be proactive, the agency is establishing a command post to gather intelligence and coordinate with local and state partners on potential threats.

The FBI released a statement about the increased awareness ahead of the inauguration.

"Between now and the presidential inauguration on January 20, we will be maintaining a heightened posture to monitor for any emerging threats to the region," the statement reads. "With that in mind, we are urging people to call 713-693-5000 or go to tips.fbi.gov to submit tips regarding potential violence at any upcoming protest or event. If you know of an immediate emergency, please call 911."

While the FBI has said that there is no known threat to the Houston region, which includes all surrounding counties and Beaumont, Bryan/College Station and Corpus Christi, government agencies don't want to take any chances.

In addition to federal agencies increasing security, local law enforcement will also be heightened.

During a press conference, Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo said that Modified Tactical Alerts start Friday, meaning all “hands on deck” with officers spread throughout the city.
