Pastor Billy Register FIRST ASSEMBLY Fleming Island
C.S. Lewis wrote in his book of essays “God in the Dock”; “What are we to make of Christ?’ There is no question of what we can make of Him, it is entirely a question of what He intends to make of us. You must accept or reject the story.”
What is the story of Easter? As we approach this holiday that is so central to our faith, we should reflect on its true meaning. We can’t simply go through the motions of the season. The true story of Easter is mind-blowing, transformative, and carries our entire faith on its back. But we must choose to either accept or reject the story.
Many struggle to accept the story of Easter because it tells of a man being raised from the dead. But we must remember that our faith is supernatural at its very core. We believe that God can do anything. We profess that He has done miraculous things in the world that no person could ever hope to accomplish.
Throughout His entire ministry, Jesus foretold that He would rise from the grave. Why, then, is it so challenging for some to believe? In 1 Corinthians 15:14, Paul writes, “If Christ has not been raised, then all our preaching is useless, and your faith is useless” (NLT). That is a strong statement, and it makes evident how essential the resurrection is to our faith.
Through the resurrection, Jesus has conquered death once and for all. When He returns, He will share that power with us. Then we will be free to live in the presence of God for all eternity.
Easter is all about the resurrection of Jesus. At its core, it is a story of hope. This truth is critical to understand because our world today desperately needs hope. Jesus Christ has defeated death, promising to share that same power with us upon His return. What greater news could we ever receive?
My prayer is you will accept the story of Easter. Embrace the fullness of grace God gave to us through Jesus. Celebrate the resurrection and the wonderful truth that it brings. It will serve as the foundation of transformation in your life and all those around you.
