Beach Volleyball Claims At Least a Share of the OVC Regular Season Title Following Day One of the OVC Weekend at EKU

RICHMOND, Ky. – Despite battling Mother Nature and facing a two-match split on the opening day of the OVC Weekend at Eastern Kentucky, Morehead State beach volleyball claimed at least a share of the 2021 Ohio Valley Conference Regular Season Championship Saturday.

Morehead State opened the day with a 3-2 setback in its match versus Austin Peay, but in the defeat, the Eagles forced each of its three dropped flights to three total sets, including sending two of the three third sets to extra points before falling.

The Eagles continued their winning ways in the afternoon's second match, defeating Chattanooga 3-2 to claim at least a share of the OVC's Regular Season crown. Morehead State captured flights one, two, and five in the match as the Eagle's first pair—Hannah Keating and Allison Whitten—and fifth pair—Bridget Bessler and Taylor Hodges—were undefeated on the afternoon.

Morehead State wraps the final day of the 2021 regular season with two more matches at the OVC Weekend at Eastern Kentucky, facing UT Martin and Jacksonville State. The matches feature start times of 12 p.m. ET and 4:00 p.m., respectively.

• Competing in both matches on day one of the OVC Weekend at Eastern Kentucky, Hannah Keating and Allison Whitten competed in the pair's 30th and 31st matches all-time, becoming the program's all-time leader in flights played as a pairing. The duo also picked up a pair of wins, extending its program-record pairing win total to 25 flights.
• Also picking up a pair of flight victories Saturday was the pairing of Bridget Bessler and Taylor Hodges who, like Keating and Whitten, improved to 8-1 on the year. At 8-1, the pairs .889 winning percentage leads all pairings in program history (min. of seven flight victories as a pair) while the pairs eight victories ties for fifth-most in program history.
• With eight flight victories in 2021, the pairings of Keating and Whitten and Bessler and Hodges tie for the third-most single-season flight victories by a pairing.
• Adding two victories each, Keating and Whitten became the third and second players, respectively, to reach 30 individual flight victories in program history, joining Olivia Lohmeier in the 30-Win Club. Whitten ranks second all-time with 31 victories with Keating ranking third with 30.
• With a pair of flights played on Saturday, the pairing of Margaret Musselman and Anya Reinhard became just the sixth pair in program history to reach 15 career flights played. The pairs 12 total victories rank second in program history.
