JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Florida’s largest food bank continues to help families in Jacksonville dealing with the fallout of the ongoing pandemic and other economic hardships, and dozens of volunteers joined in Saturday for another food giveaway.

The food distribution at The Bethel Church served 1,000 families ahead of Easter.

“Farm Share is an amazing organization,” said Rosemary Winbush, pastoral leader at The Bethel Church. “We’re just partnering with them so we can be that vehicle that they can use in our community.”

Cars filled the parking lot across from the church before the distribution began Saturday morning with their trunks open to get a box of fresh produce and canned goods.

“I am grateful that they are doing this,” said one woman who received food for her family. “It’s been a hard year for everybody and is still a hard year.”

Serving 67 counties in Florida, Farm share has given more than 700 million pounds of food since it started. In 2020, they distributed more than 104 million pounds of food and served more than 86 million meals.

Farm Share says more than 3.5 million families are suffering from food insecurities throughout the state.

The organization works with local farmers to recover and redistribute food that would be thrown away to give back to the community.
