SHERMAN, Texas (KTEN) -- 14-year-old Mattia and her 12-year-old brother Josh committed to a challenge that most young people maybe wouldn't think about.

"Well, we saw it on TV and decided to do the challenge," Mattia said.

It's a challenge that asks kids to mow 50 lawns for senior citizens, veterans, single parents, or disabled citizens free of charge.

"It's helping out the community and like the elderly and veterans and single moms," Josh said. "It's harder for them to do it when they have kids and other things to take care of."

Mattia and Josh mowed their first lawn on Friday.

"It's a very busy day," said homeowner Michelle Velazques. "It's great that they come in and help me out, it's just like, 'Oh, that's one thing off my list!"

After Mattia and Josh finish mowing 50 yards, they'll receive new lawn equipment, but it won't stop there. They say they plan to continue their service after they complete the challenge.

"I'm super proud," said mom Jennifer Archer. "It just goes to show that I'm raising them right."
