BOLIVIA, NC (WWAY) — A medal ceremony honoring the service of Lieutenant Robert Humberson Miller Jr. took place Saturday in Bolivia. Although Miller passed away over two decades ago, his son and daughter were on hand to accept the award.

Miller served during World War II in the Civil Air Patrol, flying up and down the east coast looking for German submarines.

Several dozen people turned out for the event in Bolivia honoring Miller. He was supposed to receive the medal last year, but the pandemic delayed the ceremony until Saturday.

“With COVID, it’s a year later probably,” Miller’s daughter Victoria Duke said. “But we’re very honored to be able to be here today and get this award.”

“I know the number of missions that he flew, there are reasons they sought him out,” Miller’s son Robert Miller III continued. “But he was one of many. So we’re all very proud.”

The ceremony concluded with a Cessna flyover and medal-presentation to the children of Miller.
