Northwestern Clinches Share of Big Ten Women's Lacrosse Championship - Big Ten Conference

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Northwestern University women’s lacrosse team clinched a share of the 2021 Big Ten Conference title following its 20-10 win vs. Maryland on Monday, marking the Wildcats’ first Big Ten championship in program history. Prior to this season, the seven-time national champion Wildcats won the 2019 Big Ten Tournament, but had yet to capture a Big Ten regular-season title.
 
With Monday’s victory against Maryland, the Wildcats completed a season sweep over the Terrapins to improve to 9-0 on the year.
 
Northwestern currently ranks No. 3 in the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Coaches Poll and will close out its season with contests against Michigan (April 8), Ohio State (April 11) and Michigan (April 18).
 
In addition to clinching a share of the regular-season title, Northwestern also clinched the No. 1 seed in the Big Ten Women’s Lacrosse Tournament and will receive a first-round bye. The 2021 Big Ten Women’s Lacrosse Tournament will be hosted by Penn State from April 29-May 2 and will feature a seven-team field. The tournament will consist of three games played on Thursday, April 29, two semifinal games on Friday, April 30, and the championship game on Sunday, May 2.
