ROSEMONT, Ill. – The University of Maryland men’s lacrosse team clinched a share of the 2021 Big Ten Conference title following its 18-12 win at Michigan on Saturday afternoon. The Terrapins have now won five Big Ten championships since the league was formed in 2015.
The three-time NCAA champion Terrapins last won the Big Ten regular-season championship in 2018, which marked Maryland’s fourth-consecutive title dating back to 2015. Additionally, the Terrapins have won the Big Ten Tournament twice (2016 and 2017) and went on to win the NCAA national championship in 2017 following a 16-3 campaign.
With Saturday’s victory against Michigan, the Terrapins completed a season sweep over the Wolverines to improve to 8-0 on the year. Maryland currently ranks No. 2 in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Division I Coaches Poll and will close out its season with contests at home against Ohio State (April 18) and at Johns Hopkins (April 24).
Additionally, the Terrapins have now clinched the No. 1 seed in the 2021 Big Ten Men’s Lacrosse Tournament and will receive one of the tournament’s two first-round byes.
