Bryson DeChambeau was on pace to shoot 60 for the second consecutive round when things went awry on Saturday, but he recovered to share the lead with Patrick Cantlay entering the final round of the BMW Championship in Owing Mills, Md.
DeChambeau, who narrowly missed shooting 59 on Friday, remained red hot to start Saturday. After birdieing No. 3, he made back-to-back eagles, sinking a 25-foot putt at the par-5 fourth, then driving the green at the par-4 fifth and rolling in a 53-footer. He added a birdie at No. 8 and shot 6-under 30 on the front, then added another at No. 11.
But things turned at the par-5 12, as DeChambeau found the water with his second shot and made bogey. His tee shot on the next hole, a par 3, also hit the water and led to a double-bogey.
The roller coaster continued with a birdie at 14, bogey at 15 and birdie at 16 before he parred out to shoot 5-under 67.
Cantlay, who opened the day one back of DeChambeau's lead, missed from nine feet at 18 to bogey and fall back to 21 under. He shot 66.
