Real Madrid have made a €160 million ($188 million) opening bid for Paris Saint-Germain striker Kylian Mbappe, according to multiple reports in Europe. CBS Sports soccer insider Fabrizio Romano confirmed the report, saying that PSG are not ready to give to the green light as we move a week away from the transfer deadline.
With Los Blancos looking for their next superstar to finally kick-start the underwhelming post-Cristiano Ronaldo era, the World Cup-winning striker could be making what's believed to be his dream move to the Santiago Bernabeu. The bid was obviously going to be rejected with PSG surely looking to break the record transfer of €222 million that they paid Barcelona for Neymar back in 2017. But, nonetheless, it's a starting point for Florentino Perez and Madrid.
With Mbappe's contract set to expire next summer and having failed to reach an agreement with PSG on a new deal, rumors have been circulating as to whether he would stay in the French capital or not. The news of his potential departure could be a big blow for the Parisian club, who earlier in the month signed the world's best player in Lionel Messi and look like the heavy favorites to win the Champions League.

Messi, Mbappe and Neymar are viewed as essentially a nearly impossible-to-stop trio in attack that should help the Parisians cruise to the Ligue 1 title and at the very least, make the Champions League final two seasons after losing to Bayern Munich in Lisbon.
On the Real Madrid side, one has to wonder if this is a move that would even work for Los Blancos when it comes to La Liga's salary cap restrictions. Those restrictions, implemented before the season, resulted in Barcelona failing to re-sign Messi. While Real Madrid's financial operation hasn't been nearly as poorly managed as Barca's, the club could find it difficult to make numbers work in the end, though they were able to earn over $80 million with the sales of center-back Raphael Varane to Manchester United and midfielder Martin Odegaard to Arsenal.
