MOSCOW, Aug 11 (Reuters) - The share of Russia’s OFZ treasury bonds held by non-residents increased in July by 0.9 percentage points to 19.9%, the central bank said on Wednesday, citing National Settlement Depositary data.
The weekly inflow of foreign money into rouble-denominated OFZ bonds more than doubled in the week to July 30 and reached a fresh 2021 high amid expectations a sharp interest rate increase by the central bank last month could hasten the end of the monetary tightening cycle.
Major Russian banks remained the main buyers of OFZ bonds that Russia uses to plug holes in its budget. These banks bought 51.5% of OFZs that the finance ministry sold at weekly auctions in July, the central bank said. (Reporting by Andrey Ostroukh and Elena Fabrichnaya Editing by Mark Potter)
