In response to a recent letter to the editor by a Dunnellon resident, multiple others wrote in to share their thoughts on the Silver Springs area and future developments.

“I was born in Ocala, Marion County, Florida in 1967. I’m one of 11 children. How can somebody, anybody, disrespect the springs like that? Like others, I wish I could give my grand kids the experience that I had as a kid. If it was built tomorrow, it would be packed all the time. We didn’t want Wild Waters to close. If a water park was built in Silver Springs the revenue would be overflowing,” says lifelong Ocala resident Paul Preston, Sr.

“Wild Waters was a place to meet family and friends. Even when I graduated from high school, we looked forward to going to Wild Waters. Your parents knew where you were. We shouldn’t have to travel outside of beautiful Marion County to look for fun. So, please keep our kids close to home and safe. We really need to focus on our children and keep them alive. We’re building all around, everywhere you look. So bring back the fun!” says Audrey Rembert of Ocala.

“I live near the old water park area. The park was Silver Springs’ main attraction for people from around the world. The youth need the water park, families need it. Other parks are two hours away and many families don’t have transportation,” says Karin Ahrman of Ocala.

“I’ve been living here in Silver Springs in the forest for many years…a new water park would be the best thing that we can have out here, closer to town. It would clean up the area and provide something for the youth,” says Silver Springs resident Michael Gray.

Ocala resident Brandon Meola suggested a water park be placed elsewhere in the city. Meola says Silver Springs had a water park previously, and that there are other areas across Ocala and Marion County that might be better suited. “Why not put a water park somewhere else in the city?”

“We do need a water Park and some good restaurants in Silver Springs. What better way to make that part of town look better. The motels will bring more people to the park. There is nothing in this part of town for the people that live on 40 east to go to. Everything goes out on 200,” says Ocala resident Sylvia Kleber.
