The latest episode of Atlanta United’s Spike'd Up podcast featured forward JJ Williams and defender Anton Walkes, with club president Darren Eales and director of digital and broadcast Matt Moore providing a platform for their perspectives on inequality facing Black people in America.
The issues have come to the forefront in recent weeks after George Floyd was killed in Minnesota by a white police officer, and nationwide protests about racism and police brutality have followed suit. Williams and Walkes shared their own experiences as Black athletes, with the former growing up in Montgomery, Alabama. As for Walkes, he’s from England and played with the Five Stripes during their inaugural 2017 season.
Be sure to watch the entire show below, and heed Walkes’ words of advice: “When we all listen to each other, I think that’s when things will start to progress.”
