Upham - What once stood as a lakeside residence in the Town of Upham, between Elcho and Antigo, is now a pile of rubble and ash.
A 67 year old man sustained severe burn injuries from being inside the home when it exploded on Thursday. Neighbors say they heard a boom and called 911.
The burned man was taken to Langlade Aspirus Hospital before being airlifted to UW-Madison Hospital Burn and Wound Center.
Neighboring residents to the combusted property say the man died.
The cause of the incinerating incident is under investigation.
Justin Kern, Regional Chief Communications Officer, American Red Cross, says home explosions are not common in Wisconsin, however, we are entering peak house fire season.
"Snowfall and stuff—that is when we start to see a kinda immediate spike into our busier season with home fire responses," said Kern.
He encourages folks to inspect their heating devices and keep all heat sources clear of clutter.
Rhinelander Fire Department Lieutenant, Adam Johnson, says the holiday season has its own fire hazards to be mindful of.
"There is increased fire loads within peoples houses with decorations, lights, gifts, especially in a more compact area. People forget to water their trees. A dry tree becomes a dangerous tree," said Johnson.
He stresses how quickly a fire can develop off of a dry tree. Johnson encourages people to be mindful of their exit routes and that they do not become congested by holiday decor.
Fire experts ask residents to call 911 for immediate disasters and to call 211 for community services following a tragedy.
