Mattresses and box springs are now accepted at the recycling yard at 330 Hook Road.
The Bayonne Recycling Yard at 330 Hook Road will start accepting drop-offs of wrapped mattresses and box springs, according to Mayor James Davis.
The drop-off will begin effective Saturday, Dec. 4 at 10 a.m. The Constable Hook Recycling Yard will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Mondays through Saturdays, except holidays.
Mattresses and box springs must be wrapped in plastic or in mattress covers for sanitary reasons, Davis said. Unwrapped mattresses and box springs will be refused.
The drop-off program is for Bayonne residents only. Everyone dropping off mattresses or box springs must show identification with proof of Bayonne residency.
Curbside pick-up of wrapped mattresses and box springs will continue
weekly on a space-available basis. Mattresses and box springs will be picked up by reservation only. To reserve a pick-up, call 201-858-6123.
The next available date for curbside pick-ups of mattresses and box springs will be Tuesday, Dec. 28. The number of mattresses in recent weekly pick-ups has increased from fifty to sixty.
Davis continued: “We are adding the option of allowing residents to drop off wrapped mattresses and box springs for two reasons: it will provide for quicker disposal of mattresses than the weekly curbside pick-ups; and it will reduce the volume of mattresses that pile up on the trucks during rounds of curbside pick-up.”
The new drop-off program for mattresses and box springs applies to just
those items. Couches, tables, chairs, and other bulky items will not be accepted at the Constable Hook Recycling Yard.
Traditionally, the Constable Hook Recycling Yard has accepted drop-offs of
electronics such as TV’s, stereos, and computers, and scrap metal. Those items will still be accepted.
Due to the observance of various upcoming holidays, the Constable Hook
Recycling Yard will be closed on Dec. 24, 25, 27, and 31 as well as Jan. 1 and 3. The Recycling Yard is not open on Sundays. For more information about that recycling yard, call 201-858-6152.
