University of Minnesota offensive linemen Sam Schlueter and Blaise Andries have accepted invitations to compete in showcase bowl games after the season. Schlueter will compete in the Hula Bowl on Jan. 15, 2022, in Orlando, while Andries will participate in the East-West Shrine Bowl on Feb. 3, 2022, in Las Vegas.Schlueter will complete his sixth year of college football when Minnesota plays West Virginia in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl on Dec. 28, 2021, in Phoenix. He has started in 45 career games (32 at left tackle, 10 at right tackle and three as an extra offensive lineman) for the Gophers and was named All-Big Ten Honorable Mention in 2021, 2020 and 2019. He was also named Academic All-Big Ten five times and received the team's Offensive Trench Award in 2019.
Andries is in his fifth season with the Gophers and recently announced that he will forgo his final season of eligibility and declare for the 2022 NFL Draft after the Guaranteed Rate Bowl. Like Schlueter, Andries has started 45 career games and has played every position on the line except center. The three-time Academic All-American has started five games at left tackle, 11 at left guard, 20 at right guard and nine at right tackle. He was named All-Big Ten First Team by the conference coaches in 2021.
Schlueter and Andries are the fourth and fifth Gophers to accept an invite into a showcase bowl in 2022. Offensive lineman Daniel Faalele and defensive linemen Boye Mafe and Esezi Otomewo will all compete in the Senior Bowl in early February.
