NATIONWIDE — Nancy Pelosi said she does not plan on challenging the election results should President Donald Trump win reelection come November.
The Speaker Of The House appeared on CNN’s "State Of The Union" on Sunday where she told Jake Tapper that she will consider the election “legitimate” regardless of its outcome—but insisted there are other issues to consider in the lead-up to voting day.
"Of course," Pelosi said, "but that doesn't mean that we will not shout out against his initiatives, whether it's to tie up the Postal Service so that we will not have the opportunity for people to vote by mail, to not having to choose between their health and their vote."
"It doesn't mean that we ignore the Russian interference into our election and they try to cloak it by saying, 'Well, we look at many countries.' No, the Russians 24/7 are interfering into our election," she added.
Pelosi maintained that the President is attempting to discourage people from voting in order to turn the election in his favor, and condemned Republicans that she said are “complicit in President Trump’s efforts to undermine the integrity of our elections."
"It’s so sad to see Republicans marching to this drum,” the California Democrat said. "They’re going to have, as I’ve said over and over, major doggy doo on their shoes for a long time to come because they are complicit in his undermining the integrity of our election."
"He’s doing this so that people won’t vote," Pelosi continued. "The best thing, all the time, is to ignore what he has to say, because it has no association with fact, validity or truth. He may have his bully pulpit, but we have the American people and we'll make sure they turn out to vote."
Pelosi’s comments come as the government debates allocating additional money to the Post Office in order to ensure mail-in voting goes smoothly.
The House of Representatives voted to pass a bill Saturday that would infuse the United States Postal Service with $25 billion in additional funding, as well as reverse recent policy and operational changes designed to cut costs.
The bill passed mostly along party lines, but more than two dozen Republicans joined Democrats in the 257-170 vote, which was caused in part by growing concerns that the Post Office would be able to handle mail-in voting for this year's election.
The White House threatened to veto the bill, although it is unlikely to pass the Republican-controlled Senate.
President Trump has taken a decidedly different tone during his campaign, and recently said the only way he will lose the election is if it is "rigged."
"Just make sure your vote gets counted because the only way we’re going to lose this election is if the election is rigged," Trump said during an August 17 rally in Wisconsin. "Remember that."
