Report: Riley Reiff given until Tuesday to decide to accept restructured deal - Daily Norseman

suitersa.blogspot.com

As we reported earlier, the Minnesota Vikings have approached Riley Reiff, their current starter at left tackle, about restructuring his deal in order to clear up some cap space for the team. Now, it appears he’s been given some time to think about it.

Courtney Cronin of ESPN is reporting that Reiff is not expected to be in attendance when the Vikings conduct practice this afternoon. Per her report, the Vikings have given him until tomorrow to decide whether he wants to take a restructured deal. If he refuses, it sounds like the Vikings are going to release him.

Reiff currently carries the second-highest cap figure on the team for 2020 at $13.2 million. He signed a five-year, $58.75 million deal with the Vikings in March of 2017. According to Over the Cap, cutting Reiff would save the Vikings somewhere between $8.8 and $11 million. For a team that’s as close to the cap as the Vikings currently are right now after the Yannick Ngakoue trade, that could be significant.

Of course, it’s also significant that the Vikings may be on the verge of cutting their starting right tackle 13 days away from the start of the 2020 regular season, too. As we reported in our previous story, Sunday’s practice saw incumbent right tackle Brian O’Neill taking first-team snaps on the left side while Oli Udoh was the first-team right tackle.

We don’t have any definitive answers on the Riley Reiff situation at this point, but it doesn’t appear that we’re going to have to wait long to get them.
